Axim is home to Ghana's second oldest fort, Santo Antonio, built by the Portuguese in the early 16th century, where thousands of slaves were held before being shipped to America. It can be visited today. Today, Westerners come to Axim to enjoy its beaches. Axim's fishing port is also worth a visit. It is perhaps one of the most typical harbors on the entire Ghanaian coast. A short detour is a must to admire the pirogues and their flags, which are very much in vogue, as well as the fleet of makeshift boats that proudly defy the ocean.
