Beyin-Fort Apollonia was an English pavilion in the 1660s and is located 65 km west of Axim. An English trading post was established there around 1691 and the fort was built between 1750 and 1770. Abandoned again in 1820, it was temporarily taken over by Mac Lean's expeditionary force in 1836, in order to facilitate its opposition to King Kwako Anca of Nzima who was fiercely resisting the English invader. It was then ceded to the Dutch in 1868, who renamed it Fort William and occupied it until 1872, before it became English. It was rebuilt between 1962 and 1968 and now houses a retirement home.
