In the north-west of the country, the village of Ballyshannon(Gaelic:Béal Átha Seanaidh), with a population of around 2,300, lies on the River Erne, halfway between the Atlantic Ocean and the Anglo-Irish border. For blues guitar fans, this is where Rory Gallagher was born, in March 1948. On the first weekend in August, we'll be passing through Ballyshannon, which hosts a renowned festival of high-quality folk and traditional music. A few kilometers east of Ballyshannon, you can take a look at Assaroe Falls, which, upstream, forms the beautiful and peaceful Lake Assaroe. A bucolic getaway worth considering.
