Enjoying a privileged climate thanks to the Gulf Stream, the commune of Bantry is home to a port and a small town that are a pleasure to discover. Bantry is also a place with a strong French memory, both historically and artistically. On two occasions, in 1689 and 1796, the French fleet entered Bantry Bay to support the Irish insurgents. Unfortunately, they were unsuccessful: on the second attempt, the ships couldn't even dock because of the roaring storm, so they turned back and headed for the French coast. In any case, today it's very tempting to spend a few days in this typical little port.
