Derrynane National Historic Park is a 120-hectare national park and a wonderful place for birdwatching. After passing through lush forest, you'll also find one of Kerry's most beautiful beaches. From here, you can reach Abbey Island. Look out for an Ogham stone (a stone on which the letters of the ancient Irish alphabet are engraved). It's on the left-hand side of the road leading to Derrynane House, the home of the famous Daniel O'Connell (1775-1847), nicknamed The Liberator for his peaceful commitment to Irish independence.
