Don't hesitate to leave the Ring of Kerry and take this scenic 40 km road from Cahersiveen to Waterville. The scenery may be a little less spectacular, but this route is much less crowded, which gives it more authenticity. You will pass by Portmagee, a small colorful fishing harbor, by the beautiful bay of St Finan, from where you can see the Skellig Islands, then by Ballinskelligs, a very small village which shelters the ruins of a monastic site probably linked to the monks of Skellig Michael. You can also stop at the Cill Rialaig Arts Centre in Dun Geagan.
