Sneem could win the coquettish award, with its houses repainted every year in pale yellow, ultramarine blue and pastel green, and its white church with a salmon weathervane. This little town on the river of the same name has a rather interesting feature: Charles de Gaulle stopped here for 13 days with his wife in 1969 (after the rejection of the April 27 referendum and his resignation, and to avoid becoming involved in his own succession), on one of his many trips to Ireland. You can also take a look at De Gaulle's Stone, familiar to all Irish locals.
