This village of 2,600 souls is an excellent base for exploring Maramureș: close to Sighetu Marmației, it lies at the crossroads of two major roads, at the junction of the Iza and Mara valleys. Rural guesthouses abound. Well-preserved, the village is also renowned for its doors and woodworking. You can see craftsmen at work (wood carving, wool, palincă...), who will be delighted to show you their work. A brochure, available at the tourist information center (main street), lists them all. A must-see is Ioan Borlean's glass icon workshop (strada Zavoi 689).
