This spa town of 1,300 inhabitants, popularized during the Communist era, is distinguished by its location at the top of a ridge, just under 500 meters above sea level. Its spa waters come from lakes created by water seeping into the salt mines, which were in operation until 1950. A number of hotels and tourist facilities, such as the Lacul Sarat complex and the Crăiască hotel, provide access to these waters. Many guesthouses also feature small saltwater baths. As for nature, you can take a walk in the Crăiască forest, among its monumental oak trees, or in the Hoteni peat bog, home to carnivorous plants.
