Between Caen and Courseulles-sur-Mer, close to the D-Day landing beaches, this small village in the Bessin is situated on the picturesque Route des Moulins, in the middle of a valley below a limestone plateau. Fontaine-Henry is thus almost invisible from the surrounding wheat fields. However, its beautiful old stone houses and farms are worth a stop, as are its old stone quarries, which were used for the construction of many buildings (as far away as the United Kingdom!), and its magnificent Renaissance castle overlooking the Mue valley. Listed as a Historic Monument, this castle has one of the highest roofs in France!
