This is the land of legends. Around 1620, a sailor is said to have lost his silver goblet in the river, exclaiming: "Voilà trois pistoles à l'eau" (the name of the coinage of the time). The town was thus christened. To discover Trois-Pistoles and the surrounding area, take the Route des WOW, with its twenty or so discovery-filled stops, or take to the open sea with the Coop de Kayak des Îles (rentals, guided outings, packages). But don't leave Trois-Pistoles without a bag of cheese curds from Fromagerie des Basques, a mandatory stop. Another good gourmet address is Ferme du Castor gras.
