Travel Guide New Westminster

New West is the oldest city in Western Canada. Named by Queen Victoria, the Royal City is British Columbia's fashionable hidden gem. It's a historic and cultural centre that has something for everyone, from food and wine to shopping, arts, theatre and entertainment. Located about 10 kilometres southeast of Vancouver's Downtown, it was originally a gold prospector's town, founded in 1865 by a colonel of the British Crown Army. Today, it is a major port that provides Vancouver's port with significant support. The city is known for its historic architecture and its (fee-paying) Pattullo Bridge, linking New Westminster to Surrey.
