Drawn by the Fraser River bed to the north and the U.S. border to the south, Surrey is the second largest city in British Columbia (after Vancouver) and is on the way to becoming the first. One-third of its area is protected farmland with 330 kilometres of rivers and streams. Because of its economy, which is based mainly on agriculture, you can visit many farmers' markets from May to October. Surrey also places a great deal of emphasis on arts and culture, as evidenced by the art exhibitions and concerts at the Surrey Arts Centre. The small town of Cloverdale is home to several film shoots and antique dealers.
