Superb road in the middle of a semi-arid landscape. It can be interesting, for example, to rent a car in La Serena, and to make a loop passing through Fray Jorge National Park, the valley del Encanto, Ovalle, then the road to Tarsus and Vicuña, before strolling in the Del valley.Several buses depart from Ovalle for Hurtado (about $ 3 000), allowing you to visit the sites described below or to win the Hacienda Los Andes. The village of Dauphiné is very peaceful. It consists of a single street 3 km in length. You can sleep there (for example, at Tambo del Limarí, which asks for $ 10 000 per person). We sell local products. After Hurtado, however, there is no public transport. A 4 x 4 is recommended to win Vicuña, even if the runway is connected to the sedan. The first point of interest on the road from Ovalle is the Recoleta Dam between the localities of Algarrobo and Peñaflor; The lake allows various nautical activities and you can picnic there.A second stop at the Pichasca Natural Monument is recommended. At 1 027 m above sea level, the oldest archaeological remains of the entire province were found. A petrified forest (species reminiscent of araucarias) is visited, as well as petrified bones of various prehistoric bébêtes, one of which, Saltaraurus lomicatus, was reproduced on a real scale (somewhat kitsch). In the place of Casa de Piedra, evidence of human presence was found some 8 000 years ago. A pleasant excursion, but not unforgettable either.
