Originally a native settlement, Dalcahue grew with the construction of a chapel. On the canal bank, houses on stilts were built to accommodate dalcas and other boats (destroyed by the earthquake and tidal wave of 1960). The village was then rebuilt with more modern buildings and public facilities. Today, it's a major fishing port, and its halls host one of Chiloé's most important craft fairs on Sunday mornings. Craftsmen from the surrounding area and neighboring archipelagos come here to sell their wares.Ferry to Quinchao : non-stop from 7 a.m. to 11 p.m. (free for pedestrians, 10 min.).
