Travel Guide Nercon

4 km south of Castro on the road to Chonchi, Nercon means "between the hills". The small town is particularly famous for its church, yet another one! The church of Nuestra Señora de Gracia de Nercón still retains its old-fashioned atmosphere and has undergone few restorations. It is one of the churches declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO. It was built in 1895 and is 25 m high, 40 m long and 15 m wide. It is a perfect example of traditional Chilean architecture and was built entirely of Alessandria and cypress, the native woods of the region. The interior walls are painted white and exude an atmosphere of healthy simplicity. It is possible to go up to the gallery and on the roof.
