Three types of forests are present in this national park, which owes its name to the most remarkable species, the endangered alert. Other species of evergreen forest can be found: coigüe (a kind of beech) tepa, laurel, avellano (hazelnut tree), etc. The park's fauna is exceptionally diverse. Among the mammals are the pudú (small deer), the puma, the zorro gris (grey fox)... and among the birds, the condor and the kingfisher. It is also possible to practice sport fishing or canoe on the Chapo Lake. About fifty small lagoons nestle in the hollow of the forest. Be aware that it rains a lot in the area!
