As for the atmosphere of the cartels, it is not necessarily very accomplished but the place is friendly and one will have pleasure to take his lunch or his dinner there.

"If on the one hand there is strength in unity, at Tapisco it is sharing that makes the table", as they announce on their website. Chef Henrique Sá Pessoa, who has worked in Michelin-starred restaurants, invites you to discover his concept of tapas from both sides of the border of the Iberian Peninsula. In a luxury bistro atmosphere, you will eat Spanish tapas, Portuguese dishes and sip traditional vermouth. Since its opening, this restaurant has been full, a sign of its quality.

A house of petiscos, a decoration made with taste, a wide choice of Portuguese style tapas with original accompaniments. The one that seduced us the most: the caramelized cod, with its sweet potatoes. It's up to you to choose your preference. For those eager for meat, chef Filomeno Nogueira will offer you the "prego", a sandwich whose meat has been carefully selected and perfectly seasoned. In this establishment, the decoration is full of colours. A different house that is really worth the detour!

It is said to be a meeting place for artists and journalists, but also for many people from the neighbourhood. Founded in 1899, here is one that has not succumbed to the fever of modernity of the district, keeping a traditional atmosphere in a classic room with white walls and high baseboards of azulejos. A menu that includes all the typical fish or meat dishes such as grilled sea bream, tuna steak or pork secrets. The portions are generous, so there is not always enough room to taste the excellent desserts.

Close to the Eduardo VII park, this restaurant offers a certified Thai cuisine of quality and faithful to its origins. The cook, a Thai, ensures the uniqueness of this Asian cuisine and offers a journey through the different regions of Thailand. She prepares the dishes with fresh products that contribute to enhance the aromatic particularity of this cuisine. The menu presents a wide variety of dishes where vegetarians will find their account. On the second floor of a building, the atmosphere is welcoming and relaxing.

In the magnificent setting of the ^17th-century Convent das Bernadas (also home to the Puppet Museum), this restaurant replaces La Travessa and offers a cuisine combining ingredients from Portuguese terroirs with French cooking techniques. At the helm of this fine establishment: chef Pedro Henrique Lima and chef João de Oliveira, with the support of French chefs Alexis Gielbaum and Maxime Kien. Result: roast lamb fillet with eggplant and date chutney, duck confit with smoked carrot cream, chocolate mousse or crème brûlée.

A beautiful space at the corner of Terreiro do Paço, which is a restaurant, brasserie and museum. The museum presents the history of beer in Portugal, with the reconstruction of a former monastic beer factory. We discover how the monks made this drink, the ingredients, the secrets and as a bonus we taste a beer created specifically for the museum. Don't leave without tasting the classic "Bohémia" beer or the Portuguese-speaking specialities, or the bacalhau pasteis made from cod and processed cheese.

Wood, marble, copper counters in this institution opened since 1782. Many personalities have passed through this brewery, including Fernando Pessoa. Today, some tertúlias (convivial intellectual meetings) are still held in its historic interior room. The prices displayed seem to take advantage of the reputation of the place, which has become a tourist attraction. The cuisine (a lot of fish: cataplana de peixes mistos, red mullet, sea bass...) is correct but not much more, even if sometimes the dish of the day is economical.

Attended by a rather well-to-do clientele, acquired during its more than 70 years of existence, Gambrinus is considered to be one of the best traditional addresses in the city, located in a street well endowed with addresses to choose from. Fish, seafood, an excellent wine list, and therefore a (somewhat disputed!) reputation. Empadão de perdrix (Monday), fish soup rica (Wednesday), grilled cherry with gribiche sauce, Rothschild soufflé. Overrated house and really too salty note!

Beneath the arches and vaults of the former stables of the palace of the Counts of Valadares, here's a beautiful space that's both a delicatessen and a wine cellar, as well as a restaurant with several lounges. It's full of charm, offering a wide choice of meats (bifes...), fish (tuna...) and seafood (octopus...). There's also a petiscos (Portuguese tapas) bar and a café-patisserie. The management has had the bright idea of programming a few photo exhibitions and occasional well-attended concerts, notably in the form of jazz concert cycles.

This antiga casa de pasto, a tavern dating back to 1814, is known for its pretty wooden interior divisions, which, according to legend, were used to hatch dark conspiracies or to count flirtations in all discretion. Today, the small dining rooms are still there... The proposed cuisine is honest, unpretentious but tasty: fried prawns, grilled chouriço, cod in Brás... The desserts are excellent (inevitable pudim flan and toucinho do céu), but you can also stop for a simple sande (sandwich).

Slightly hidden away near the elevador da Bica and the Santa Catarina viewpoint, a simple tavern serving good Portuguese cuisine. Very informal and rather relaxed, with its kitchen on view, it offers grilled meats and fish, well cooked and seasoned just right, as well as a few more or less elaborate homemade preparations. The menu is small in size, but big in terms of quality and meets the highest standards! It's best to arrive early to find a seat, as the place is a big hit with the locals...

This small typical restaurant with a welcoming and intimate atmosphere is located in the heart of the Alfama district at the top of the dos Remedios street, which goes up to the right of the square, in front of the Fado museum. The speciality of the house is the charcoal grilled meat and fresh fish, made right in front of your eyes, on the right side of the entrance. This is undoubtedly one of our favorite places to eat at this price, with this view, right in the center of Lisbon. Here is the first Lebanese restaurant that opened its doors in Lisbon! It is run by the El Dib family, who settled in the capital more than 20 years ago. So of course, you will not be surprised to taste typical dishes, like the "kebbé maklieh", speciality of cow meat with ground corn and its small onions, but also tabbouleh or falafels. A good address to dive into the bewitching flavors of the East. And let's not forget to underline the presentation and the quality service.

A small tasca that does not look like much, popular and multicultural, you will discover a patchwork of the cuisine of the former Portuguese colonies. This canteen offers you dishes from Mozambique, Angola and Goa. Good meat dishes, "cabrito with curry or coconut" (cabri), "gambas with curry"... The mango juice is extra and fresh, some vegetarian dishes, and good homemade desserts (the "maracuja" mousse, passion fruit, is excellent). The welcome is always friendly, and the atmosphere very friendly on its small terrace.

A tasca, typical and popular in Graça, with a very good reputation. Classics of Portuguese cuisine, Bacalhau a braz, and meat dishes. We eat a simple cuisine with gargantuan parts. A slightly old-fashioned atmosphere that has lived, but that's what makes it so charming. A warm welcome, to sum up in two words: "bon vivant". Plan time because, as a victim of its success, the restaurant is full for lunch. However, the service is generally quite fast once installed at the table.

A traditional "tasquinha" as we like them, only a few tables to taste a simple and excellent cuisine. A typical decoration with some ceramic dishes on the walls where you can read some sayings. To tell you the atmosphere of the house, one of them says "here the customer is the most important of the house"! We totally agree! A very good address to eat a grilled fish, cod or a dish of the day. Although located in a smart district, it keeps a good quality-price ratio and thus remains a sure value.

In April 2016, a new space with a diversified offer was opened in the heart of the Chiado district. It's a unique concept developed by three partners who have given new life to an old palace dating back to 1781. The palace is distinguished by its architecture - the imposing interior staircase is a sight to behold. Faithfully restored to its origins, with magnificent murals and stained glass windows, the place harmoniously combines the ancient and the modern. Quality dishes are served in this warm setting.

Its name refers to the pizza dough, made here from flour 00. From the wine bar with a menu of more than 80 Italian nectars to the proseccos, as well as the delicatessen and cheese stalls that can be tasted on site or taken away... the products, all certified, come from the boot, and more particularly from Veneto. A la carte: salads, pasta and pizzas. Pizzas made of thin, crunchy and flavoured dough, they are the success of the house. In good weather, you can enjoy the superb terrace overlooking the botanical garden.

Located at the end of the small square, on the side of the Rossio station, this very central restaurant is part of the walls of the railway station. It looks like a brewery and is a bright and friendly place where one is surprised by the decoration based on ancient objects around the railways, coming straight from the railway museum of Entroncamento. Here you can enjoy Portuguese gastronomy dishes made from quality products: fish brochettes, octopus and cod in the oven or cod salads . Very nice terrace in fine weather.

The name of this pizzeria comes from its oven covered with a thin layer of gold, installed in a corner of the room. It's an opportunity to taste the real Neapolitan pizza, "the Michelin star of pizzas"! Its dough is unique, made from organic and natural yeast, which Tanka, the owner, brought from Italy. Other dishes, specialties of the house, are proposed as beef cooked at low temperature. For the amateurs, a choice of more than 35 craft beers from different countries is also proposed. To finish, we can't resist the homemade tiramisu.

Open only in the beautiful days, under trees and parasols, for those who missed on June 13 th (the Saint-Antoine!), one of the nice places to graze on sardines (during the season of the small fish mascot of the capital: June to July) or other fish of the day or cuttlefish (venom), the rest of the time. Despite a inconsistent service, the atmosphere is very typical with the tables timed on a level of the calçadinha and the grill before you… Hence the interest of going to be outside the summer (history of writing even if there are few other possibilities given the calendar and space of this restaurant!) with less risk than your clothes you talk about tides for a week. In addition, we love roasted peppers, fried with olive oil and with onions and then the sangria in good agreement!

In a rustic room, everyone is placed side by side according to their order of arrival, regardless of because everyone here is friends, or in any case treated as such. Petiscos and rich food dishes from the Minho region: fried rabbit, grilled cabri, fish (sável/shad). Depending on the age and season it is possible, here, to the north of Lisbon to enjoy game and fish caught in fresh water…

Inside an old printing house, sharing the same roof as the very popular Ler Devagar bookstore, you will be able to taste some dishes inspired by Asian cuisine. For example, an excellent duck in soy sauce, a tender crab and its curries. A fusion cuisine, with a choice of à la carte dishes from Malaysia, Thailand and China. A small restaurant just below the Assembly of the Republic. It's not very conspicuous from the street, so keep your eyes peeled as you stroll along. It's when you look down that you notice it, with its often-filled tables. Inside, you'll find wooden tables, a mix of antique furniture and contemporary decor, and on sunny days, a small sunny terrace. It's run by an Italian couple who don't offer pizzas, but dishes straight from the boot, which you can accompany with a good wine.

Close to the Praça dos Touros (bullring), this fine family-run restaurant is worth its weight in gold, as it specializes in typical Portuguese regional cuisine! Since the mid-1980s, the "Perchoir" has been developing a deliciously classic cuisine: cod pataniscas (fritters), scrambled eggs withalheira (game sausage), rice with eel, cod with lagareira, cabri chops... Beautifully presented, with the flavours of yesteryear. Recently selected as one of Lisbon's top 25 restaurants, a real treat!

Located in the corner of Rato Square, on the street that goes to Príncipe Real, this brewery is seen by its imposing façade. It is installed in a public building dating back to 1741, which later underwent several transformations - the objective was to unify the architecture of the neighborhood. At the time, it was in this area that silk was manufactured, and the building had the Kingdom silk factory. It should be noted that the project was originally designed by the French Weaver Robert Godin. Inside, a spacious and warm setting, and attentive service. The flat side serves Portuguese cuisine, a great deal of choice: Du-fries - served with sauce - rice with seafood, grilled fish - we recommend mero - octopus in the oven, cod specialities… For a small snack in the afternoon, there are plenty of petiscos. Excellent value for money.

In a street parallel to Almirante Reis Avenue, with a typical Portuguese decoration and a special attention to presentation, Franginho Real offers well elaborated Portuguese dishes made mainly with meat (not recommended for vegetarians). One of the specialties, "O frango a guia", a chicken with a small preparation, is to be discovered. As curiosities: a caipirinha and starters with grilled sausages. An elaborate range of wines.

In a usual rather harsh setting with an aluminium counter and half-height tiles on the walls, the menu offers us some classics: sprinkle with mariscos, sprinkle with tamboril, açorda with mariscos, fondues, porco carne na cataplana and then quite a few grilled fish with rice or potatoes. The products are fresh, the wines mainly from the Douro and Alentejo, the service is well established and the clientele is 90% satisfied. Don't miss the last Friday of the month, the meal singing with very good fado artists!

A few steps from A Brasileira's glorious past, between its old decoration, its waiters in large aprons and its famous cakes, this house has the favours of many Lisbonites who sit inside (with restaurant at the back) or on the terrace. Greed sometimes imposes sacrifices, such as submitting to a cashier who is impassive and not always friendly. If you have opted for a (more expensive) table, you can point out to the server what you want. And, no mercy for the croissants!

Initially, it was a project to promote small producers through the sale of monthly baskets. The project has grown since 2019, and has become a laboratory for experimentation thanks to this café, which opened in the Campo de Ourique neighborhood. As well as being a café, it's a pop-up kitchen that can be booked to test its catering concept. In this way, the offer changes regularly, and you'll have the opportunity to preview the cuisine of future restaurants.

Immerse yourself in the Mexican atmosphere by walking through the door of this restaurant. Its motto: I eat tacos therefore I exist. We will have understood which dish is put in the honor here! Don't worry, there are also other dishes like salads, nachos or tortas (improved sandwiches). We like to come there at the time of the happy hour, to have two margaritas for the price of one. Outside, a small improvised terrace with chairs and multicolored tables. Inside, a lot of colors also with a big mural.

Oven, in reference to the famous tandoor oven used in Indian cuisine for over 5,000 years! This restaurant brought one, handcrafted from Delhi: no less than 8,500 km traveled to the streets of Baixa Pombalina. Chef Hari Chapagain has composed a menu with the most traditional dishes of Indian and Nepalese cuisine, such as the famous tandoori chicken. A menu with a wide choice of dishes including vegetarian options. And, unusual in Indian restaurants, there are also desserts...

You'll love this address, that's for sure! Small in size but big in quality, D'As Beatas is a restaurant worth a visit. You may be surprised by its somewhat avant-garde logo, but the cuisine is very traditional. The reviews of the customers are full of praise. The presentation of the dishes is also very well done. You will have to reserve if you want to have the chance to eat there because it is often full. You will recognize it with its pretty frontage with its picture windows and its two tables outside. So let yourself be tempted...

It is located off the tourist trails of the historical center but it is worth the detour! This new restaurant is run by a French couple, Nathalie and Christophe, who left everything for sunny Lisbon. Both a grocery store and a restaurant, the menu changes every day according to the season's products. Portuguese cuisine with a French touch or French dishes, they delight both Portuguese and French visitors. A choice of wines worthy of a wine shop and a smiling and benevolent welcome. Very good quality-price ratio.

A real tasca as we like them! Hidden in a small street, this restaurant is a pearl that should not be disclosed to everyone. A menu with typical meat dishes( Portuguesecozido, pork secretos, grilled meats...) and fish dishes (cod, grilled fish, octopus Lagareiro style), but also other options for vegetarians (omelette, vegetarian burger). All this at unbeatable prices (for now). If you're lucky, you'll come one day when they have frango assado, the famous Portuguese grilled chicken.

We can't get enough of these nice little Portuguese canteens. Sacco belongs to this category. Not far from Campo dos Mártires da Pátria, and from the miradouro of Torrel, its small terrace awaits you for a dinner in the tradition. Inside, the room is decorated in a modest but welcoming way with panelling on the walls and paintings showing the particularities of Lisbon. You will find all the dishes that make the success of the local cuisine. The reception is very friendly and, if you come early, they even let you just have a drink on the terrace.

Located not far from the Ribeira Market, Manah offers you dishes with oriental flavors, straight from Israel. This establishment has created a warm atmosphere to receive its customers, so that they feel at home. Because its cuisine is above all a cuisine to share. This is the concept of the mezze, an assortment of dishes to share. Those who are used to Lebanese dishes will find familiar flavors. A very good quality-price ratio.

The first pizza as we know it today was made in 1889. In 1972, Chakall was born. As an adult, he traveled the world, discovering unknown flavors. He settled in Lisbon to open this establishment.
