In the Haguenau forest, the high quality clay has long been used for pottery. The first traces of this activity date back to the Bronze Age. In Antiquity, the clay was used for tiles and pottery. The creation of Haguenau as an imperial city in the 12th century gave this craft a new lease of life. It would go on to be revitalized by population movements, driven by the upheavals of history, founding dynasties of potters. In Soufflenheim, their workshops-boutiques can be found on either side of the Grand Rue. You'll receive a warm welcome, and the artisans will be happy to answer any questions you may have.
