Souda is a naval base of strategic importance for the Greek fleet and NATO. During the off-season, shipping companies, especially those operating on the southern coast in the summer, come here to winter their ships. It is here that you can take the ferry to Piraeus. The bus stop in Hania, which runs to the port every 30 minutes, is located in front of the covered market, around the square adjacent to the port. One kilometer before arriving in Souda from Hania, there is a military cemetery where British, Australian and New Zealand soldiers are buried.
