With its small 15th century church of Santa Maria, Oliena is a picturesque town. Situated halfway up the Supramonte mountains, the town is famous for its costumes, embroidery, wines and olive oil. Gabriele D'Annunzio himself named the most famous wine of the city, because he found it so good, Nepente. Oliena has kept and cultivated its artisanal traditions. There are stores selling knives, pottery, leather, wine and olive oil. The first thing you notice when you enter the town are the murals that express the social, political and philosophical concerns of its inhabitants.
