The seat of the bishopric until 1495, Galtellì preserves important architectural testimonies of its past, such as the castle of Pontes and St. Peter's Cathedral, with its numerous 12th-century frescoes. The author Grazia Deledda drew inspiration from its narrow streets and religious folklore to depict the village of Galtellì in her novel Reeds in the Wind. The village is dominated by the limestone massif of Mount Tuttavista. The gigantic wall of Sa Preta Istampata is astonishing, with the regular hole that opens in its upper part. A statue of Christ on the cross is planted at the top of the mountain and becomes a place of pilgrimage at Easter and early May.
