Referred to by Grazia Deledda as "a little wild mountain", this island is dominated by a 500 m-high peak that captivates visitors with its vertiginous walls. Legend has it that Dante was inspired by its pointed shape to design the high mountain of Purgatory. Only one part of the island is accessible, the other being a military zone. As soon as you arrive, you'll be greeted by a strip of land covered in golden sand, with shades of pink, bathed by an emerald sea, with low waters (on the shore) suitable for children. A path, punctuated by educational panels, takes you through some of the island's main coves.Tavolara is the world's smallest kingdom. At the end of the 18th century, Giuseppe Bertoleoni decided to settle with his family on the island of Tavolara, to make a living raising goats with gold teeth (a peculiarity of their diet), which colonized the territory in large numbers. Legend has it that the King of Sardinia, having landed in Tavolara and met Bertoleoni, recognized his sovereignty over the island.Every year, Tavolara hosts "Notte in Italia ", a fair created to promote the dualism between cinema and the environment, which attracts large numbers of spectators.
