Located 40 km southeast of Konya, at the level of Madenşehir, Mount Binbirdirek (2,283 m) attracts attention. It is an ancient volcano called Karadaş. It is sacred among the Hittites and source of many beliefs and traditions in the region. Mount Binbirdirek also hosts a whole set of buildings that date back to the Byzantine era, such as churches, monasteries, a fortress, cisterns, military works, cemeteries, dwellings. The place was abandoned by its occupants when the Seljuks arrived in Anatolia and, unfortunately, time has erased most of the traces. Recommended excursion.
