36 km from Milas, 21 km from Muğla and west of Yatağan. Archaeology enthusiasts will have the opportunity to stop there to visit the site of Stratonikeia. This Carian city, originally called Chrysarois, experienced an era of prosperity in the 3rd century BC when the Seleucid Antiochos I gave it the name of his wife, Stratoniké. All the present remains date from this period, the elegant and well-preserved gymnasium is one of the largest in the ancient world, as is the sanctuary of Serapis. A lignite mine and the nearby motorway do not guarantee the serenity necessary for a trip back in time, and few tourists interrupt their tour to come and honour this former centre of the cult of Hecate. Small museum on the site.
