The remains of this fortress occupy the top of a rocky ridge bordered by a deep ravine. They can be seen from the road leading from the Visitor Centre to Umm Shayoun on the left. It was built by the Crusaders in 1116 as an outpost of the fortress of Shobak. The castle has a rectangular plan with a large courtyard in the centre, bordered on the west by a chapel (apse and pointed window) and a fortified tower. The Ayyubids seized it in 1188, but a terrible earthquake killed all its residents. The fortress is now revealed as the Crusaders had designed it.
