On the Kings' Road, 60 kilometers south of Tafila, stands one of the most important fortresses built by the Crusaders. Built on the initiative of Baldwin I, Shobak Castle stands atop a desolate hill overlooking a valley leading down to the Wadi Araba. Although the interior is now only scattered ruins, the exterior of the well-preserved fortress suggests its grandeur and role at the time. It is located in the middle of a lunar landscape that is worth a look. Shobak also hosts the smallest hotel in the world: a Fiat 500 parked on the side of the road, facing the castle!
