18 km north of Balchik, this small town is built back from the sea. When you go down to its harbor and beach, 2 km below, the ancient city of Bizone perched on the hill Tchirakman, was swallowed up by the sea following an earthquake in the 1st century. The city was rebuilt, but plundered by Slavs and proto-Bulgarians in the 7th century, and finally the present site was founded by the young Bulgarian state. At the harbor, you can still see the hill cut by the earthquake, the small beach and, north of the pier, the fishermen's huts built illegally on the heights of the cliff (an attraction in itself!).
