30 km north of Varna, this seaside resort between the Black Sea and the forest combines large concrete buildings and a fairly preserved nature, near the nature reserve of Baltata. Its name refers to the heroine Albena of a famous novel by the Bulgarian writer Yordan Yovkov. Every season hundreds of thousands of holidaymakers flock there in search of sun and relaxation. Albena was built according to the Bauhaus urban planning models: the facades of the hotels, staggered in the form of steps, allow the light to enter through high windows. Its 5 km long sandy beach is one of the most beautiful in Bulgaria.
