Ten kilometers south of Constanţa, Eforie Nord and Eforie Sud are two seaside and spa resorts with long beaches, located on the strip of land between Lake Techirghiol and the Black Sea. A spa resort since 1894, Eforie Nord is renowned throughout Europe for its hot-bath facilities, with waters enriched with concentrated salt extracted from the Black Sea or Lake Techirghiol. The small Lake Belona, to the south of the resort, is appreciated for its waters, which are on average 6 to 7 degrees warmer than those of the sea. Eforie Sud, situated on a promontory overlooking the sea, was Romania's very first seaside resort, founded in 1892. It was once the spa of Carmen Sylva, the poet pseudonym of Queen Elisabeth of Romania. It's one of the most pleasant spots on the coast, with a more village-like atmosphere. Like its northern namesake, Eforie Sud boasts a wide range of spa facilities. Its beach is pleasant, as it's slightly away from hotels and villas. There's less crowding than elsewhere. Eforie Nord and Sud offer a wide range of activities: diving, water sports, mini-golf, etc. A little to the west, Techirghiol is a spa located on the shores of the lake of the same name, which separates it from the Eforie resorts. This lake, whose name comes from a Turkish word meaning "bitter", is the source of treatments based on mud and salt water (six times more than the waters of the Dead Sea). The sandy beaches lining the lake are very pleasant. The resort also boasts several health centers.
