Located in the south-east of the circus, below Dimitile, Palmiste-Rouge, named after the palm tree that is said to have grown there in abundance and whose heart is eaten, is relatively remote from tourist itineraries. The dry environment of the village is conducive to the cultivation of peanuts and lentils. The village is essentially a vegetable and fruit growing village, Palmiste-Rouge is especially known for the quality of the work of its embroiderers. Indeed, most of the embroiderers of the circus of Cilaos come from this small area where it is good to live, and they perpetuate the tradition. It is surrounded by much smaller islets, such as the islet at Calebasses.
