Located on the island's north coast, Saint-Denis, Réunion's "capital", is home to almost a third of the 130 historic monuments on the island. Museums, Creole huts, 19th-century mansions (most of which are located on rue de Paris), parks and more - just stroll through the streets of the city center and you'll discover an extraordinary historical heritage. A guided tour, offered by the Nord intercommunal tourist office, is an interesting option for getting to the heart of the matter. Saint-Denis has been Réunion's administrative, financial and economic capital since 1738. It is home to almost 149,800 Dionysians (Insee 2020).
