Built towards the end of the 13th century, after the Catalans reconquered the island, Ferreries, nestled on the slopes of the Son Telm hill, is protected from the wind by the S'Enclusa mountain. Home to just under 5,000 residents, the town is above all an important industrial center known for the manufacture of shoes and costume jewelry. The town's 14th-century parish church, Sant Bartomeu, and its Arabic castle are well worth a visit. The Menorca Nature Museum is another good reason to stop off here. There's also one of the island's two campsites (S'Atalaia), with swimming pool, bar and restaurant.
