Colonia de Sant Jordi, located in a cul-de-sac with a few beaches (Platja d'Es, near the main marina, but also the quieter coves of Es Caragol, Es Carbó and Ses Roquetes, protected from the wind and with calm waters) and numerous cliffs, was once a fishing village. The area was occupied by the Romans, who appreciated the salt production allowed here. There is also the only hot spring on the island, now used by a hotel. Colonia de Sant Jordi is also the ideal starting point for a crossing to the island of Cabrera, some fifteen kilometres away.
