Christopher Columbus is said to have stopped here to repair the hulls of his ships, i.e. to "carenear" them. Located a few dozen meters in front of Bocas, Carenero is a perfect place for those who want to escape the crowds while remaining very close to the center of entertainment. The village, made up of small wooden houses, is located on the southwest side of the island, in front of Bocas Town. Nice quiet beaches for swimming and a good surf spot (January-April and July) are accessible a little further. You can also walk around the island, in about an hour and a half, between beaches and jungle.
