This international park spans the provinces of Bocas del Toro and Chiriquí, as well as Costa Rica. Accessing it from the province of Bocas del Toro, you'll have the opportunity to meet the Naso Teribe communities, one of the country's lesser-known Amerindian groups. The Nasos were already present in the region when the Spaniards arrived. Over the centuries, following numerous clashes with neighboring communities (Bri-bris, Mosquitos...), this monarchy moved to the banks of the río Teribe, fighting for the creation of its own territory. A victory finally celebrated at the end of 2020 with the recognition of the Naso Tjër-Di comarca by the Panamanian state, whose boundaries straddle two protected areas: the PILA and the Palo Seco forest reserve. This particularity reinforces the recognition of this people as guarantors of environmental preservation. On a completely different note, the proximity of the thick primary rainforest also attracted the military from 1986 to 1989.
