Akhziv, mentioned in the Bible as one of the cities of the tribe of Asher, is in fact limited to a beach of just a few hundred square meters. The site has been inhabited since prehistoric times, with the remains of a Phoenician port and a superb lagoon in what is now known as Akhviz Beach National Park. Today, people come here mainly to swim in the beautiful sandy lagoon and in the natural pools that have formed in the rock. The park is open daily in summer, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and until 4 p.m. on Fridays (admission 35 NIS). The park borders Akhzivland, a small estate declared a micro-state by its owner in 1971.
