Established in 1979 as Israel's first ecological village, Klil is now home to around 400 people. Ecologists, but also many artists, have taken up residence here and live in perfect harmony. Many come from the hippie era. No electricity other than solar, and a gentle way of life that's second to none. There are a few guesthouses, some of which offer nights in yurts, a handful of restaurants and little else... The main thing here is to recharge your batteries. Klil is at the gateway to Yehi'am Forteress National Park, whose remains can be reached by footpath. A market featuring local produce is held here every Thursday.
