This Nord (French for "North") is quite relative, since it is located in the heart of the Lyon Peninsula. The first brasserie open by Paul Bocuse - already 23 years ago with the takeover of Le Nord, famous Lyon brasserie inaugurated in 1907 by Edouard Herriot - is thus in a side street, within walking distance from Rue de République. One of the signatures of the Brasseries Bocuse is the verandas that allow you to enjoy the show of a little dark street throughout the year. You will undoubtedly prefer the traditional and cordial room. As usual, flawless reception and service to offer us the opportunity to taste "traditional", like the place. The upper floor offers private lounges where it is pleasant to discuss with colleagues or in family in a cosy atmosphere. You settle down on the red seats and you discover the specialties of an almost unchanging menu that are, according to the seasons, the sauerkraut and the Burgundy snails with parsley butter. Here, the cuisine known as "middle-class" is in its kingdom and you come to enjoy the suggestions of the Chef Franck Barrouilhet: warm sausage with pistachio in brioche, duck foie gras terrine, a mix of griddled fillets of market fish, a pike quenelle with lobster sauce, the chicken fricassee of calf kidneys with mustard... Without forgetting the Grandmother waffles which have contributed to the reputation of the place. A very classic address, in the best sense of the word.

The most southern cardinal point of the brasseries Bocuse is at the height of the place Bellecour, on another place oriented towards the Rhône heading to the Mediterranean. It is true that Confluence moved the Sud (French for "south") closer to the forefront of the Peninsula, but this brasserie is always part of the most prominent ones in Lyon. Pleasant terrace and wide veranda open on a green and lively place with an always impeccable service and reception, what we appreciate above all is the regularity of an address which never disappoints. At Le Sud, you are received every day and late with the same smile and the same quality in cuisine. In the kitchen, Gérard Lasne always offers a cuisine of the sun according to the arrivals, with the famous suggestions of the market around a whole piece roasted on the spit, a fish according to the fishing and tagine of the day. The menu recites its classics to satisfy every appetite: Marseille-style fisherman's soup, Bömlo salmon marinated with dill, tarte pissaladière, a Provençal octopus stew, a pot of fish in bouillabaisse, couscous-style lamb shank or a chicken tagine with lemon confit. After the traditional Saint-Marcellin cheese of Mère Richard, summer offers us the opportunity to vary the pleasures with the minute vacherin with fresh fruits. A sure address with southern look.

From the terrace lounge set in one of the rare quiet corners of the very busy rue Mercière, to the room which succeeds the bet to be both very graphic and very warm. An amazing design for a place where you quickly feels at ease - thanks to the reception and service of an impeccable staff - despite an elegance and a standing displayed. A place where Fabien Chalard and Vincent Galy have given a soul around their common passions: wine, cuisine and conviviality. In this cocoon on which the weather only has a little influence, we stick to the good things of the restaurant through a menu that offers us beautiful tasting experiences in all occasion and in any season thanks to the outstanding quality of the products. Exceptional meat menu for carnivores, including a must-eat Gastro-Burger or a rack of lamb from Ferme de Clavisy, not to mention the unilateral cooked salmon steak. Add to the Restaurant, the bar and at the new Bouchon, you have a Café which is a "tapas restaurant", much more than a bar, and which logically fits for this reason in our restaurant chapter. Thomas thus offers us to have a meal in a Spanish way while discovering the fast food spirit of tapas, these small portions you nibble while enjoying a glass of good wine or a mojito. But Thomas also changes our diet presenting beautiful dishes - how could he be different with such a house! - filled with quality ingredients: salmon gravlax, marinated shrimps, pinchos, toasted slice of bread with goat, honey and cumin, chicken "grenouillettes", cod fritters, lacquered chicken wings... and dishes accordingly: Charolais beef tartare, wild sea bass maki and Scottish langoustines, barbecued milk-fed veal pieces with aromatic herbs... It was in 1954 that Vital Pignol, a young boy from Saint-Etienne, set up a cake shop at the 17 of Rue Emile Zola, right next to the emblematic Place Bellecour. More than 60 years later, Maison Pignol has changed but the address has remained. Pignol, the caterer of choice, has become synonymous with exceptional receptions and now has 7 restaurants and shops, employing some 160 employees. This great house has, however, kept its soul and it is still enlivened by enthusiasts and demanding professionals like Jean-Paul Pignol. What is truly outstanding is that this shop never rests on its laurels, always offering new creations at any occasion, always seeking to do the best! At this "historic" address, Pignol offers us a cake shop, but also a restaurant on the two floors of the Pignol family's former flat! All in all, four different rooms, from the bistro atmosphere to the kitchen via the intimate lounge, to enjoy seasonal dishes that are different every day - such as this perch fillet in the heart of summer -, well composed salads with fresh produce, and of course, the wonderful homemade pastries. Bistro Martine is one of the best surprises when you discover an area stingy with its warm and family addresses that make the reputation of Lyon. Then, you can sit on the terrace, in the middle of the flowers, as soon as summer arrives or in a dining room enlivened by a lovely counter with a discreet charm. A friendly atmosphere, smile guaranteed at every hour of the day, and especially at lunchtime where guests like to be around Martine to enjoy a good homemade cuisine with fresh seasonal products, just as it was done in the past. On this summer's menu, beef nose salad (which still makes it?), a melon, raw ham and mozzarella or a cold-cuts platter. Coming up next, homemade lasagna, grilled mackerel fillets, a beef tartare with razor clam or ravioli with cheese. A beautiful dessert menu, also homemade, and wine list accordingly. Built in the luxurious Sofitel hotel, Silk benefits from the tranquillity of the places, yet only steps from Place Bellecour and the hyper-centre of the peninsula. A both classic and completely atypical place with its decor that immerses us in the universe "vintage" of the 70s to the brilliant colours on a neutral background and in the universe of silk (which gives the name to the establishment). Between chic bistro, elegant brasserie and elegant restaurant, Silk is for everyone and not only the 5-star hotel high profile clientele. Best-in-class, refined and convivial service, beautiful home which is really hospitable, and a high quality cuisine which also fluctuates between the brasserie tradition with oysters, a Lyon salad, a famous 100% beef tartare, homemade burgers, one of which is truffle or a fresh salmon tartar, and the nice food service with roasted cod fillet, delicious roasted scallops or a rack of lamb and its pan-fried seasonal vegetables. Mother Richard cheese and a vanilla brioche with speculoos ice-cream. Other must-eat of the house: the omelet as you want it and the terrible chicken Sandwich Club. Beautiful wine list, grand crus, for a harmonious wine and meal pairing.

On the terrace or in warm (but air-conditioned) rooms, this restaurant/wine bar is not lacking in elegance or conviviality around Jean-Baptiste Dumond. Every Thursday and Friday, the Bistro organizes the "Work, Metro, Bistrot" (after work 18 h/21 h) to share around a good glass of wine (more than 40 references with small producers selected with care), and a board (charcuterie or local cheeses) to enjoy among friends. In cooking, Chef Yoann Richard prepares home-made dishes from products of artisans and small producers (some products to be found in the grocery corner). With its own (rare) sauce, it gives taste and taste to a map that follows the seasons. This summer, a true beef tartar with a knife like La Varenne or a creamy burratina at the "Fabioyann". To follow, a French beef fillet at low temperature, light béarnaise or a yellow place, roasted vegetables and bergamot marmelade, piquillos sherbet. Very modestly, and because the huge Georges Blanc has common sense, it seems that the head of Vonnas has gone in our direction by slowing down the increase in these rates and by "refocusing" on other dishes than around meat. Even if the card still offers a Burger Gourmand in the county (bread and French quality meat) at the same time 21 €. The decor remains the same and is rather successful, avoiding making this restaurant a cliché of its kind with its relevant inscriptions. The kitchen is equal to what one is entitled to expect from a house worn by this multi-star chef. The card still features pieces that you won't find anywhere else, meat selected with special care such as this Black Angus Beef Tomahawk (94 € for 2 people) or a Japanese beef mudflap Wagyu at 38 € 180 g. All meats are exceptional and the sauces are homemade. But we also like to turn to a block in the crust of fatty liver marble, "King Prawns XL" gambas, a "new" lobster of Tristan da Cunha baked to Plancha or beautiful sole meunière, not forgetting another Fleeced Zum De, as well as a supreme volaille façon. A nice response from a centre that should not be overwhelmed. Smart follows the case carefully.

After a wining return, Docks 40 changed direction but did not change formula. Silver glints goes around a modernized room whereas beautiful photographs catch the eyes. Among the tapas on offer: a terrine of foie gras accompanied by its fig bread, a dish of involtini, a served whole Abruzzese sausage, a tasty charcuterie platter; next, the meat's tapas with a quail fillet lacquered in yakitori's way, a delicious duo of mini-burger or fish tapas with a mid-cooked salmon smoked with Sichuan pepper or the pan-fried prawns with chopped parsley; before finishing with sweet tapas, like these fruit skewers with chocolate sauce. Careful, do not dine too late, because as the bell sounds from 23:00 and the music and the dance are replacing the catering service, facilitating our digestion. Docks, much more than a restaurant, is a crucial address during the day and night, recommended by Futé.

New offer this year, instead of the Blue of You, a restaurant that comes from the ordinary of a street mainly dedicated to the Lyon restoration with a cabin halfway between the Savoyard restaurant with its wooded and warm decor - a little way a trapper's hut - and the charentaise hut where one comes to eat a mouclade (mussels). A cabin without gastronomic pretensions, but a pleasant place where you can find refuge in the middle of a lively and noisy street. The hotel is a good place to stay in the heart of the city. It is a good place to stay. Salted and sweet pies of season, gourmet toast, dessert plates and cheese, not forgetting desserts also homemade. The promise of place supported by a leader to "great" gueule and heart is simple: make you eat fresh products at lower cost. Promise only partly held after a meal that takes more of the "concept" than of the kitchen, which seems to us to be a height for a restaurant "chef". From our installation in a minimalist room, only a few funny quotations on the walls to attract our attention, a lady comes to "sell" our meal, forgetting to quote the famous "Philippe Etchebest of Top Chef". It's after the problems arrive at the same time as the dishes. There is no doubt about the quality of farmed salmon or the freshness of meat, but nothing is really cooked, just cooked. Charmelcia sauce, incidentally without interest, is forgotten, just like bread, while the appetizer's peanuts end up cooking on the flat heater that will be used to keep chips (will) warm. Disappointing. And the tartar is showing an incredible "platitude", dry, and without the possibility of season to our taste. The other disappointment is the price. Because in the end, adding a dessert to 6,50 € - again, a vacherin with a taste of water not terrible - and a beer at 3,90 €, the meal returned to more than € 23 without entrance, without coffee (1,90 €)! No doubt Smart hoped for it too much in a rue des Marronniers little known for the quality of these establishments (there are still caps where, for an equal price, or even less, one can eat fresh and cooked products… Read and be Smart).

It's cool, pimpant, a rustic strand with the shelves where a few good bottles are planted and the tables don't embarrassant to recevoir us. The reception is a charming lady looking after us in this soothing setting where we invite you to read the slate of the day when you find the "classic" of the house and of the seasonal dishes. In carefully composed plates, there is a carpaccio of jacques and Smoked salmon or salmon rillettes and house quenelle. To follow, well-composed salads, a roasted breaded self-marcellin, raw ham, potatoes, salad, home burgers served with skipped apples and salad, not to mention the Ravioles of Mother Maury. Side desserts, Valrhona chocolate cream or renversée cream with almonds and caramel. A small corner of the city's gourmet holiday, it's so good to take that you don't need to miss it!

The concept of Chez M'homme is interesting in many ways, since it allows us to broaden our horizons without forgetting that you are in the land of Lyon. In M'homme, it is the kitchen of our regions, a wide palette offering us a culinary journey from Provence to Savoy (diots to white wine and crozets), with detours by Cantal to taste a famous cancoillotte and smoky apple smoke and by the Jura. Back to the origins with a tablier tablier deck, a hot sausage served with the brains of canuts or pike quenelles which will be told of the property. This spring, we enjoyed the fine maxi-salads card and a marinated beef carpaccio. Simplicity, simplicity, you're invited to a family table by a lovely boss around a free kitchen that doesn't say it, and it's often better than that! To complete the table, a point of originality with this table suspended on the ceiling. You're so good at me, even head upside down.

Ideally located in a pedestrian walkway between the place des Des and the rue de République, here is a "café-restaurant" that has been able to bring us comfort for 6 years now. First, a word on the refined garden of the places, before talking about a terrace among the most pleasant. The room is simply magnificent, mixing between the old with its apparent stones and its ceiling in French, and the modern, with beautiful pictures attached to the walls. A warm room where one is perfectly welcomed by a charming person who presents the concept of the establishment. A concept based above all on dishes of the day inscribed in slate according to the market and the inspiration of Chef Florent Gutierrez. It is well achieved with good products, not too sophisticated a chic bistro kitchen: Charolais beef tartare, Black Angus beef mudflap, Bellota Iberian fleeced, grilled squid tubes, Thai fresh salad. To finish with strawberries or cheesecake, and its grout of raspberries. It is true that we will return to this address, which has certainly brought comfort to more than one gourmand in the city centre. Novelty of the year: an extension with the annexation of a neighbouring establishment that is transformed into a private room, ideal for organising events with family or friends.

Apparently, rue Mercière is not the one we think of when we are looking for novelties. Full of strong institutions in charge of feeding, with more or less joy, Lyon residents but mostly visitors come in gourmet territory, rue Mercière is not popular to change establishments. This year, it is a bit of revolution, especially in the "heart" of the street, on the "old" side (you will notice that the Saone side of rue Mercière is much older than the Rhone side, transformed at the opening of the Peninsula main streets). Among the newest, the Fiston. This "fiston (son)" is Julien Dargaud, fell into the cauldron of the kitchen from his childhood. In a place tastefully decorated by Pierre Chaduc, the Fiston offers a traditional, tasty and inexpensive cuisine... All you need to be delighted without resistance. Futé advises to start on the terrace by sharing a board of Fiston. Then, attack with an Emulsion of crustaceans and its prawns blazed with cognac. To be followed with well composed salads, a homemade burger, a pasta shells cocotte, parmiggiano reggiano and truffled ham or a must-eat Camembert roasted in the oven, new potatoes, raw ham and salad. Fiston other delicacies, tartares and carpaccios, Angus flank steak or a royal seabream fillet sauce trumpets of the death. Crème brûlée with vanilla and tiramisu with red fruits to prolong the pleasure of being in a Mercière street that became very reputable.

Futé congratulates Le Dandy for having managed to impose its style in a central neighbourhood, right next to Palais du Commerce, and yet it's not that easy to highlight. Le Dandy's asset is first of all the welcome and the perfect service. Wide opening hours, but mostly great smiles and a real passion of the welcome team which may even touch an expert accountant. There is always room in this great Dandy, on the terrace or in the room that hides some secrets (especially during lively evenings), which has managed to update a carefully crafted brasserie menu. This summer, salads (Caesar, Gourmande, Perigordine, Pêcheur…) have had our preference, but the eggs in Burgundy red wine sauce can delight us in any season. A rather short menu for a brasserie, but guarantees the quality of the dishes: Dandy Burger, pan-fried beef filet with morel sauce, a whole fish of the day roasted with virgin olive oil, a fisherman's risotto, Lyon specialities like an andouillette gratin served with her gratin Dauphinois or a calf's liver seasoned with parsley. Fresh fruit salad, a delicious gourmet coffee and homemade ice-cream. Interesting wine list. Meal, drink, afterwork and even evening party, Le Dandy won the bet and is part of the gourmet countryside landscape.

At the end of the beautiful footbridge facing the law courts, benefiting from a new terrace on Quai de Saone, Buvette Saint-Antoine is not really a recent address, since it has been the "Lyon inhabitants' meeting place" since 1872! Yes, but, it's a place which we have abandoned in favour of the new banks of the Rhone which offer a more pleasant setting all the same, let's admit it. As time goes by, the banks of Saône was restored at the same time as this famous Bar which has found a new lease of life. On summer evenings, open-air café atmosphere with music and well-served seafood, but still pleasant snacks with salads which are largely worth others, ideal boards to accompany an aperitif, like this whole sausage or toasted spread available according to all the desires, without forgetting the ice-creams and the beautiful drink menu and a wide range of champagne. There are many "all inclusive" package to enjoy on the Quai de Saône within a very nice atmosphere.

Le Grand Café Lyonnais is first of all a place at the corner of rue des Marronniers and rue de la Barre opening onto the huge place Bellecour. The terrace is not the most attractive in the neighbourhood, but you can sit inside to discover the cuisine of a chef we know, Roger Jaloux. One of the Meilleurs Ouvriers de France 1976 (and member of the Toques Blanches) does what he does best: a bourgeois cuisine learned at Paul Bocuse where he officiated for nearly 40 years (it was one of the first apprentices with other great names of the Lyonn cuisine like Marguin or Orsi). In short, the chef knows his business and allows gourmands - and the several tourists roaming the neighbourhood - to revisit the Lyon classics: poached eggs in meurette way, pike quenelle, andouillette braised with shallot, without forgetting the sauerkraut coming straight from Gast's. You conclude with a waffle like Grand'Mère's and its chocolate cream and Chantilly cream. An establishment open with wide schedule, where you can quench your thirst before roaming the streets and prolonging the break.

We never think enough about the Rue du Plat. A few steps from Bellecour, in a quiet area between the urban shopping of the peninsula and the tourist visits of Old Lyon, in the immediate vicinity of the Saône and its boats, here is a welcome address: The Insert. A magnificent place, leaving beautiful old stones, in a contemporary spirit half nature - raw wood - "half-undue", to offer us a quality market of quality. We feel very quickly at Julien Chazot, the young chef, and his accomplice Xavier Guillien, who receive us in all friendliness in their establishment. Terrace if time allows for a "café chouquette" at noon or tapas in the evening (with cold meats, ham, freshly baked, Frais, bogeyman revisited). Superb room to enjoy a glass of wine perfectly selected by Xavier, old of Harmony des Vins. In kitchen, Julien "transforms fresh products" according to his own words. As much as the producers are also sorted on the part for a real "cooking of the moment", realized in the morning according to the day market. It's impossible to tell you what you can enjoy during your visit, but have found cleared poultry livers with white balsamic vinegar, followed by a paupiette of stuffed poultry, fresh condiments, to finish with a beggar crumbled, red fruits and caramel. It's cool, it's good, it's beautiful, more than a restaurant, a real gourmet address.

For the Stagehands, Diplomatico does not mention that a wonderful rum from Venezuela, even if the bar of this beautiful house prepares - the cocktail card had just changed during our visit - delicious drinks based on this famous rum whose name is confused with the sign. In Lyon, Le, it is also and above all a brewery that has no doubt that it occupies a privileged location. Therefore, in front of the footbridge leading straight to Old Lyon and the courthouse, Le opens on the banks of Saône in the heart of the peninsula, making its terrace a real "spot" to enjoy all the charms of Lyon. A beautiful house created by two Lyon, Franck Hamouilli and Jean-David Perthuis (who also made the success of nearby Bar Saint-Antoine), Le does not lack charm or flavour. Seasonal cooking with good prepared products, all served on beautiful plates. Brasserie in the air of time, neither too busy nor too much "Lyon". Smart recommends the suggestions of the day to vary the pleasures. Wine and alcohol menu - including excellent cocktails - so to prolong the pleasure of being at Diplomatico.

The formula does not date yesterday, but rather the day before yesterday, and that is all the better! The formula is simple, and it is also so much better! Since the time the Smart has been advocating the return to the good recipes of yesteryear, when lyon mothers made daily, with fresh products, tasty dishes, it is happy to welcome the opening of this bistro, coffee-counter, where slate tells us that every day matches its dish. To start the week, it's poultry on Mondays. On Tuesday, it is season stew and on Wednesday a traditional lamb mouse. On Thursday, small stuffed. Friday, full sun quenelles and Saturday, old Calf blanquette. Every day, a fish cooker and sometimes frogs make the party on our plates. A nice terrace on a quiet street, the former decor where the objects come together, the decoration is as successful as the kitchen. In an establishment held by Cécile and Olivier Remontet, Smart enjoyed the smiling reception and the melting buds of pleasure, generously (the big appetites will be happy) composed of carefully dishes ingredients. Another address that puts us water in the mouth just to think about it. In the face of sanitized concepts, Smart lifts its hat for this Bistrot.
