This small town of 4,500 inhabitants is located on the D520, between Voiron and Chambéry, but also at the western exit of the beautiful gorges of the Guiers Mort. Saint-Laurent-du-Pont is sadly known for the tragedy that shook France on November1, 1970, when 146 young people were killed in the fire of the 5/7 discotheque. On the heights of the city, the Notre-Dame-du-Château chapel is the only monument preserved from the old 13th century castle, it houses the statue of the bell tower. Two kilometres east of Saint-Laurent, the D520 runs alongside the Herretang peat bog, a sensitive natural area where discovery trails have been laid out.
