Saint-Gervais is a village of 500 inhabitants located at 200 m altitude in the Isère valley, at the foot of the Vercors massif. It is located at the northern end of the beautiful road Ecouges (D35) that connects the plateau to the village via the pass of Romeyère (1 074 m). The territory of Saint-Gervais is divided into three sites: a wooded area of mid-mountain where are the ruins of the monastery of Ecouges (12th century), once attached to the Carthusian order; the town, coiled at the foot of the cliffs west of the massif, an old river port on the banks of the Isere and where was located in the 18th and 19th centuries the Royal Foundry of guns.
