It is one of the southern entrances to the Vercors massif. Wide and wild, green and flowery, the Gervanne valley is attractive with just enough rock to evoke the mountain, chapels and hamlets, orchards and herds to draw a laughing landscape. Beaufort-sur-Gervanne, overhanging the Gervanne river, does not have the austerity of some perched villages, on the contrary. The village is bordered by alluvial terraces criss-crossed with crops and its slopes are lined with vineyards. Beaufort is known in the Crestois for its organic Beaufort bread, which is sold in the region's organic shops, and its organic Frigoulette chocolates
