This small high-altitude village of 200 inhabitants is located on the N102. If the village has little to offer, the local history of the Auberge Rouge is thrilling! At the beginning of the 19th century, and for more than twenty years, the Martin couple robbed passing customers in their inn, a former post house, lost in the middle of the forest between Lanarce and Le Puy. They murdered and plundered fifty travellers! The Auberge de Peyrebeille, known as the "Auberge Rouge", located at the intersection of the N102 and the D16, 5 km north of Lanarce, has been transformed into a museum. It is possible to visit with a guide who will tell you in detail the terrifying story.
