The river Ain gives the village its character. With its houses with picturesque facades overlooking the sometimes calm, sometimes raging waters, with its two-arched stone bridge and its old port, this district is listed as a picturesque site. Downstream from the Poncin bridge, on the right bank of the river, the rock shelter of the Grotte de la Colombière is a listed monument. There are nine hamlets in the commune and each one has a few vestiges of a rich historical past: ruined castles in Châteauvieux, Saint-André, Fromente, Thol, a chapel in Arthurieux, bread ovens, fords on the Suran, wash houses..
