Whether you come from Sault or the Ferrassières plateau, Aurel is one of the most beautiful villages of this wild region. Between the remains of the ramparts and the remains of the feudal castle, the most striking feature is its admirable structure with its houses as praying at the foot of the 12th century Sainte-Aurèle church. The heart of the village is a veritable maze of streets and staircases, punctuated by beautiful gates and porches in Aurel stone. Painters and potters are not mistaken in giving it as their favourite. It was René Seyssaud who introduced Pierre Ambrogiani to lighting and landscapes. He did not hesitate to set up his workshop there in 1950, then in Sault in 1961
