The notoriety of this village is mainly due to its enfant terrible, Gaspard, an emulator of Mandrin and Cartouche, bandits of honour. In 1757, the whole of the Bessois region was enveloped in the scent of a legend. Gaspard Bouis, known as Gaspard de Besse, went underground to become the Robin Hood of the garrigues! He was captured and beaten in Aix, at the age of 24. The small heart-shaped lake and seven fountains in the center of the village make Besse a watery city. Some tests of navigation of a boat in reinforced concrete were carried out on the lake in 1847 by Joseph Lambot, the inventor of reinforced concrete. Don't miss the church, built in the 17th century on 11th century foundations.
