The Petite Cité de caractère of Monts-sur-Guesnes has an eventful history. Its elevated position on the Loudunais plain made it a strategic location. In the Middle Ages, a fortified castle was built and the village grew up around it. The history of the village is linked to this castle. In the 19th century, it was converted into a hotel.
