Overlooking the village of Curçay-sur-Dive, visible from afar, the keep is the only remnant of the fortress built during the Hundred Years' War, around 1530, by the barons of Loudun to close the Dive valley and protect Loudun from English incursion. Troglodytic houses are still standing against this tower. The village also counts the bridge of the White Queen, of Gallo-Roman origin, so named after Blanche de Castille, who accompanied her son the king Louis IX when he rendered justice there. The canal of the Dive, parallel to the river, is famous for its good fishing conditions, especially for pike and perch
