Famous village of Charente-Maritime thanks to its quarries and its castle, classified Historic Monument in 1913 and which is one of the oldest castles of Saintonge. From the quarry of Crazannes, huge blocks of stone were transported by barge on the Charente to be exported to the whole of Europe: the cathedral of Cologne is built with stone from Crazanne. It is said that the base of the Statue of Liberty is also made of it... The quarries were stopped after the Second World War, as the material was hardly used at the time. A nature centre and a museum were created there.
