A village of 150 inhabitants, Burelle is located in the south-east of Thiérache on the banks of the Brune. Its greatest tourist attraction is undoubtedly the fortified church of Saint-Martin, one of Thiérache's most imposing fortified churches and a listed historic monument. Dating back to the Middle Ages, it was fortified in the mid-16th century to protect the local population from the relentless attacks of troops during the Franco-Spanish war. It is one of the few fortified churches whose upper floors are open to the public, although requests must be made to the Saint-Martin de Burelles association.
